Robert Peston wrote an interesting today poitning out that if Greece, Italy and Spain left the euro, Germany would take a hit of over half a trillion euros which would be quite a surprise to the German people.If that's right, it seems to me that, short of Germany sending in the tanks, the PIIGS have them by the short and curlies. It just needs one of the eurozone's countries to call their bluff. They won't get a functioning central bank but they might get a bit more cooperation in trying to grow their economies.Does anyone else see it this way?
